Quartzite - Metamorphic, originally sandstone, usually white to gray in color but other minerals may add variation in color, very durable, extremely hard and dense, areas can be porous, varied uses

Quartzite is a hard durable metamorphic stone which was originally sandstone. Pure quartzite is usually white to gray although other mineral impurities may add colors of pink, red, yellow or orange. Quartzite is more porous than granite but not quite as porous as marble. Testing can be done to see how absorbent that particular stone is and therefore sealed accordingly to ward off staining. Uses are countertops, bathrooms, fireplace surrounds, and tiles.
