What do we mean when we say it’s ‘Natural Stone’? According to geology, stone is a naturally occurring solid aggregate of minerals and/or mineraloids. The earth’s outer layer is made up of stone and there are 1000’s of types of natural stone near the earth’s surface. All stone is classified and put into one of three groups: igneous, sedimentary and metamorphic. When classifying stone we look at its mineral and chemical composition, its texture, and its natural process that formed it.

Igneous Stones: granite,

Sedimentary Stones: travertine, limestone, shale, sandstone,

Metamorphic Stones: marble, soapstone, onyx, slate, schist, quartzite, serpentine
