Stone Showcase: Schmidts Home in Middletown

Dennie and Becky Schmidt of Middletown, who were previous customers of ours years ago, came back into see us at the tail end of 2013 as they were beginning the process of building a new home in 2014. They were familiar with our quality craftsmanship, reliability and the reputation of our company and knew we should be a part of their new home project. James Marshall Cabinetry, who built custom cabinetry for the Schmidt’s previously, was also hired to spearhead all of their cabinetry needs in the new home. So every room you see here has fully custom cabinets designed by Jim Marshall with the direction of Dennie and Becky Schmidt.

Becky, let’s start with your extraordinary powder room which is made of Zirix by Silestone, one of our quartz products. How did you come up with this design?

“Dennie had seen something similar in a commercial application out in Las Vegas. He drew up his design and asked Frank to see if he could do it.”

Well, we all know that at Lesher, Frank thrives on challenging projects.  He loves unique “out of the box” design ideas to put our expertise to work, so to speak.  Let’s take a peak at this fabulous powder room contemporary design.

The bar is one of my favorite projects of their new home. It’s bold with texture and flow, yet neutral in color. The stone is called brown fantasy, a dolimitic marble(sometimes called tuscan brown dolimitic marble) with a leathered surface which just looks fabulous! The edge profile is mitered making it look thicker than it is. Did you come in looking for this style of stone with the bold flow and textured surface or was this something you stumbled upon at our showroom?

“The bar top we stumbled across while looking at the different selections, but decided on it because all of the other surfaces we had done were smooth. Dennie came up with the edge design.”

Notice how perfect the flow runs from the top surface to the sides that create the mitered profile.  That’s important to the eye for an aesthetic look.

The master bathroom is designed with a his and her vanity, shower areas, and toilets. The natural stone vanity top, tub surround, and shower niche is a gorgeous marble called emperador dark which is quarried in Spain. Who designed the layout of your bathroom?

“The master bath design was all Dennie’s. He wanted a contemporary open look. He really does have an eye and a gift!”

There was enough left over of the emperador dark from the bathroom project to use in the foyer saving money and making good use of this gorgeous stone.

The kitchen is part of the great room with a bar stool countertop in front of the sink and an adorable island with clipped corners. This stone is called lagoon by Silestone. It has a similar look and feel of Carrara marble. Are you happy with your kitchen and what is your favorite aspect?

“We love the fact that our counters aren’t porous and are basically bacteria-free and stain resistant. I like the roomy work/prep area of the island and the prep sink.”

What is your favorite of all the rooms that we did and why?

“Our favorite room would be our powder room because of the workmanship to create the uniqueness of the room – something very different from the average powder room.”

Becky is referring to the first powder room at the top of this post.

“We feel you guys did an outstanding job for us and were very easy to work with! THANK YOU”

Thank you Becky and Dennie for opening your home to us for photos.
